Car failed the NCT today. Got new brake pads and discs done last Friday. Failed on an imbalance that was huge on the front axle. Any idea why???
    Details are.
    Front axle:
    Nearside 0.300 kN
    Offside 3.240 kN

    OVAILTY
    Nearside 22%
    Offside 10%

    IMBALANCE
    91%
The guy basically said it was a death trap. Any help would be appreciated !

Caliper could be totally seized/sliders could be seized/ pads could be too tight but any of these should have been rectified or noticed when the brakes were fitted. Was it a reputable garage?

Should the garage have noticed they needed to be done?
I paid out 220 and I went to them because the brakes were 'shuddering' they saod it was the discs and pads.
A very well know chain I went to

There are some less likely things it could also be but they wouldn't be very common. Yes the garage should have noticed any of those issues I mentioned. I just hope when you say chain you dont mean advance pitstop or kwikfit style chain

They wouldn't be highly regarded when it comes to car repairs. They couldn't even be considered mechanics to be honest. Find yourself a good independent mechanic for future jobs. Some things are worth going out of your way for and a mechanic is one.

I hope you paid them by credit card. If they give you no satisfaction, tell them you have put the credit card payment on "hold".

I did use a credit card.
Thanks for your help. Won't be leaving until they sort it as they sent me away with an unsafe car!
    Thanks again

Insist that they cover your retest fee. Your nct specifically failed on something you paid them to fix.

Yeah that was my aim as there was only one visual with it. It was a window wiper and the brakes
