Are you trying to insure it as a 2nd car?

Talk to a broker. Let them do some of the legwork for you.

Any points on your licence? Some insurers may see that as a massive no no in a performance car.

Is a gti really a 'performance' car though?

I've only ever been able to get a quote for my 05 gti from Aviva and 123. With Aviva this year. Allianz wouldn't quote, neither would Chill and AIG wanted a smartphone monitoring app which I didn't want. This year am paying around 650 with my wife named with a provisional license

It's annoying having people shout random companies at you, but give Bank Of Ireland a go. They are consistently undercutting most insurers massively in the Insurance Quote thread.

When you're dealing with Irish insurance companies, then anything 2L with a turbo is a nailed on death machine, so reality goes out the window somewhat. :P

Whats the deal with the monitoring app, do they put a gps tracker in the car so it can be found if stolen or something?

By the sounds of the post it uses your phone which is really a cheap way out and would leave you with **** all battery ever.

Yeah its ridiculous! Not to mention intrusive. Doesn't set a good precedent for other insurers if it is ti become more common.

I don't think they install any actual tracker. It's just through the phone app .

Absolutely. 200bhp is way more than average here.

In its day it was pretty hot to be fair. Only Jap cars were making the kind of power from a 2.0 that VAG and merc are making now back in 2005! The really hot hatches are only around in recent years.

We are in Ireland so anything over 150 bhp is mind boggling to the average punter! :D

Above average. Performance, no. It's a front wheel drive hatchback with low to medium horsepower compared to really hot hatches.

Yeah but if your company's actuaries are an enclosed order of nuns and only make one trip a year outside the convent in a Yaris, then the world is a scary place and something like a GTI is sent by Satan himself to blow honesht shteady drivers off the road.

It might be here but just because we're a bit retarded in Ireland it doesn't make a Golf a performance car in the eyes of the motoring World
