Today it was confirmed €300,000 is being allocated for 2016 for the scheme to upgrade the M7 from the Maudlin's Interchange to the Red Cow to full motorway standard.

It'll be interesting to see how this proceeds

    http://kfm.ie/news/22122015-1544/%E2%82%AC43m-n7-grades
The objectives of the "N7 Junction 1 (M50) to Junction 9 (Naas North) Motorway Scheme" is to upgrade the existing dual three lane carriageway section of the N7 between Junction 1 (M50) and Junction 9 (Naas North) to a Motorway. Kildare County Council seeks the services of a competent Civil Engineering Consultant experienced in Major Civil Engineering Works to act as Client's representative. Tenderers are requested to provide engineering consultancy services to Kildare County Council in connection with the “The N7 Junction 1 (M50) to Junction 9 (Naas North) Motorway Scheme”. The Consultant will undertake the role of Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) for all contracts associated with the commission up to the publication of the Preliminary Appraisal Report. The specific scheme objectives are; • Upgrade the N7 from Junction 1 (M50) to Junction 9 (Naas North) to a motorway. • Closure of existing median openings. • Removal of all direct private accesses • Upgrade of all compact grade separated junctions.

Needs to be extended to the m9 split cause this is where the bottleneck is from not naas but as usual short sightedness and stupidity over necessity with such decisions.

Not sure you understand the scheme.

There is a separate scheme to widen the M7 between Naas and the M7 / M9 junction. This is a completely different scheme.

The M7 widening scheme from J9 Naas North to J11 is a seperate scheme, this is upgrading the existing N7 DC to motorway scheme

I don't understand the point of this scheme when money is tight.

It provides no additional capacity and IMO the money could be spent better elsewhere.

Kerry Group expects it and invested in their innovation centre in Millenium Park as a result?

Between Red Cow and Naas is part of the Ten T Network so should Motorway Standard. Due to the numerous entrances, it is still a national primary road. therefore these have to demonstrate what it would take to convert this section of carriageway to Motorway standards, it would likely have significant impacts but could avail of european funding so worth taking a look at even if the answer isn't realistic

Surprised a new frontage road from Kill to Rathcoole isn't specified too.

We don't know what this is going to involve, yet. Ten-T demands motorway in our case, as we have no other road types in the legislation that are appropriate.

This is a bit of a fanciful upgrade, is it necessary? Not really, the M20 for instance is more important. But if Europe are going to pay for it, let them!

What we need to do now is get the N20 classified as part of the TEN-T network :D

its 23 kilometres from the M50 to J9, so if they increase the limit to 120 (which is by no means certain as its 3x3 so they might decide to leave it at 100) you'd save 2 minutes 20 seconds.

2nd busiest road in the country deserves to be motorway standard

With the level of traffic on this road it should have no accesses and proper grade separated junctions

Just cos there's so many necessary projects out there not being funded doesn't mean this one has to go by the wayside

Ya you would save 2 mins journey time but would also see a massive decrease in collisions which block everything up when they happen.

Why would it being 3x3 have anything to do with speed limit?

Parts of the M1 are 3x3 and are 120kmh, it hasn't led to a massive accident rate.

Also the N2 is D3 with bikes and tractors allowed on it. No major accident rate issues.
