    Afternoon all.

Looking to treat my old ears to a new set of cans for Christmas.
They're going to be used in an office environment, and probably for 5-6 hours per day.
They're gonna be used for a mixture of audio, from talking podcasts and audio books, to all sorts of music, from Sigur Ros and Il Divo to Charli XCX and Pantera.

I think I've narrowed it down to these two sets, and I'm wondering what people think. Don't need wireless.

    Thanks in advance.

I have the mdr_1r. The 1a is the updated slightly better version. The Sonys are perfect for wide range of music styles and extremely comfy for longer listening periods. The also look a lot better than the older clunky style of the mx50. Great soundstage on the Sony's too. No brainer for me - get the Sony's.

Thanks Colossus. Was thinking the same myself. Just looking for some sort of comfort before I shell out the cash! :o

Went ahead and purchased those bad boys from Amazon. Will be a nice little treat for myself when I get back into the office in January!

I would say Audio Technica ATH ES-700, got those for the second time, there was nice deal on TK Maxx UK.
From the 2 that you have listed I know only M50x - great phones.

They were €108 delivered from Amazon UK, so don't think I can go too far wrong for that price.

Wow. I got mine for €111 over a year ago thanks to a flash sale advertised here on boards in the Bargain Alerts forum and was delighted with that. Brand new and used too. You did well.

You got the MDR-1a's for 108 quid? Nice one, currently on Amazon UK at £116 :(

    Yeah.
They're still available at that price through the warehouse deals with the extra 30% off. :D

When you add the 3rd one in this link to your basket, it'll get discounted to 70 something pounds when you go to checkout.

If someone else take that one, or if there's something else you're looking for, on the opening page of Warehouse, there's a section declaring 30% off. Click into that, and make sure you do all your searches through that link.
