Can anyone tell me how many tolls bridges are there for this route? 1? And for a return journey I just pay for 2 tolls on the eFlow website? Thanks in advance!

1 each way afaik on the M7 at Portlaoise. 1.90 for a car each way and you can pay at the toll booth.

You can see the route on here: http://www.theaa.ie/routes/#

you don't pay eFlow for this trip.

It's one cash toll near Portlaoise, €1.90 each way.
(doesn't matter if you go via Mitchellstown or Limerick)

Isn't the road at Buttevant finished? It looked like it from a picture I saw, but maybe still dug up elsewhere.

    Do yourself a favor and go via Mitchelstown > M8 > M7.

Yes that would be a shorter route. Do yourself a favour and go New Twopothouse/Doneraile and then across to the N73 beyond the town to avoid Mallow Town Centre and that awful stretch of N72/3. (top tip)

Road works are suspended in Buttevant over the holidays.

Aaaaargh now you tell me. Went "the bypass" at the weekend to avoid to avoid watching the seasons pass by in a traffic queue but found myself stuck at funeral pace all the way to doneraile. No mourners walking, just walking pace all the way.

Theres just no winning on that route.

Used to travel to south Kerry via Mitchelstown/Mallow, now I gladly pay the extra toll and drive the Cork Ring Rd/Macroom route.

Is that a good road Cork/Macroom/Killarney and is there much of a difference time wise than going the Mitchelstown/Mallow way?

Travel to Macroom a few times a year and always go the Mitchelstown/Mallow/Millstreet/Macroom route .. old habbits ... I find the route quite good .. not much difference distance wise [less than 10 miles (old habbits!!)] but I can't stand the 40-50mpg gang on the Ballincollig/Macroom road. If I was going to Killarney I would certainly go the Mitchelstown route.

Usually go via Mitchelstown so was just wondering if the other way was any advantage for better roads, seems much of a muchness so.Thanks.

I consider it a far far better road. There's only one bad section really, and it's much shorter than that hellroad from Mitchelstown to Mallow, or the run in to Rathmore, or the awful Rathmore to Barraduff stretch. The Macroom route is generally much wider and more straight, with better vision. All in all a more comfortable road to drive. Just watch for those bastardin go safe vans between Ovens and Lissarda, but sure Mallow is haunted with them too.
