    Hey guys,

Had a hankering all day to go down town and buy myself a book. I'm more of a Fantasy guy than scifi but I'll give anything a go.

Currently rereading The Dwarves as I wanted to read the last book in the series but couldn't fully recall the other three.

But I'm looking for something new. Fantasy, I guess. I'd go for some comic stuff as well if there's a particularly good comic out there to be read.

So if a guy had to spend 20e max to start a new series, which book would he buy?

Does it need to be an already complete series?

Not especially. As it turns out, I peruse do the forum for a bit and decided on starting the Malazan series. Picked up the first one yesterday.

    What do you recommend?

I'd not be able to comment on the Malazan, but I'd recommend the Drenai Tales series by Gemmel. His first, Legend, is the best starting point.

I have read The Malazan Book of the Fallen series (10 books). It's a great story, but can be pretty heavy going at times. Read Erikson's introduction in Gardens of the Moon.

There is another related series called "Novels of the Malazan Empire" (6 books) by Ian C. Esslemont which adds/fills in gaps to the overall story.

Check out a suggested reading order for both series HERE

There are also numerous companion novels relating to some of the characters. These are also listed at the above link.

+1 for this. I really enjoyed these books and Gemmel's other works.

Malazan is great, other Fantasy series I'd recommend would be A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones), Gentleman Bastards, Wheel of Time, Shadows of the Apt, Stormlight Archives...

+1 for these. Reading WOT again at the moment. Not familiar with the other one must check them out.

I would add the Mistborn trilogy and The Black Company
