Getting illness benefit certs in advance

I'm currently on illness benefit and seeing my GP every second week. I'll soon be going into hospital for several weeks, and asked him how this will work out for the weekly certs - he told me that before I go into hospital, he'll give me enough weekly certs to cover me up to mid-February. I assume they'll be post-dated.

My question is, do they need to be sent in weekly, or can I just send them in as one batch when I get them? Maybe including a note as to why I had to get them in advance? Otherwise it would mean having to ask a family member to post them for me each week, and obviously will cost a lot more in postage (I know stamps don't cost much, but I'm very poor and don't want to waste the money if I don't have to!)

You can get monthly certs for certain circumstances. Ring the Illness benefit office in Dublin in the morning and explain your case..

Not sure, but isn't it a Freepost address?

    It's not.

It is free, you do not need a stamp for letters going to any Department of Social Protection.

You'd think they'd mention that on the cert where it gives the address to post them to!
