Comment A: He had enough ammo to last a week.

Comment B: How much ammo is enough for a week exactly?

    For mobile users:
A STAND-OFF BETWEEN gardaí and an armed man in Tallaght has been resolved peacefully after 14 hours.

In the past few hours specialist garda negotiators had opened up communications with the man, who had barricaded himself into an building in Tallaght.

Gardaí say the lone man, aged in his 40s, fired a number of shots earlier this morning.

He was alone in the house, and has now been taken into custody after leaving the house unarmed.

No injuries have been reported. Armed gardaí attended the scene

I would imagine it was more stressful than any Sunday afternoon you'll ever have in your job. Isn't it great the sarcasm they get from some members of the public even when facing down armed people in order to protect the public! I reckon we need a few days of a police strike and chaos to wake a few people up to the risks they take on our behalf and what society would be for a day without them!

Wow very brave gardai. I would be so scared I would just want to run & hide once he started shooting.

Who was it that said, 'when you're thinking about how stupid the average person is, you have to remember that half of them are even more stupid than that'?

With the way some things are in this country it's probably the gun man that will claim for stress!:o

He was recently released from prison and had a domestic dispute with his partner yesterday, after which she left.

    From the Irish Times:

Earlier a former partner of the man was brought to the scene by negotiators to assist in trying to bring the siege to a peaceful conclusion.

The man in his 40s is understood to have been recently released from prison and had been living in the house with his former partner and her two children in recent weeks. The lone man was barricaded in the house at Deerpark Manor in the south Dublin suburb.

It is understood the woman left the house with the children on Saturday following an argument.

Can only imagine what might have happened if she had called the Gardai to the house instead of going to the station with the kids.

Not necessarily. The bell curve will invariably be skewed by outliers. Mean vs median, dude.

Where were you when they needed you? Trained pub negotiators are thin on the ground on Sundays
