Hi guys, new tyre time and I've been given what looks like a good price on Avons for a 141 Passat, anyone have experience of these?
235/45/17 size if that makes any difference.

Not familier with Avon tyres but as far as I am aware, they are fairly grippy but wear out fast.

I had them fitted on my Alfa, Avon ZV5's. They were great and actually wore very well. I'd fit them again.

They are a decent mid range tyre. How much were you quoted for them?

Think it was 85 or 90 a corner George, used Avons many times on bikes (they were one of the best) but not on a car.

That seems like a great price given that I paid €150 a tyre for 225/50/17 Hankoks the last time I changed. The cheapest I could get the likes of Bridgestone was €180. Am due new tyres again and if that gap still exists I might try a different size tyre to see if that might help

If you're going to make proper comparisons, you really need to specify exactly which tyre you're talking about. Avon, and every other manufacturer, make a range of different tyres suited to different needs, so just saying "Avons" doesn't really say very much, they could be ultra soft high performance tyres that'll be down to 3mm tread in no time or ones designed for longer life that'll last ages. The speed rating, and sometimes the load rating can make a significant difference too.

I've no idea, I did specificly tell the supplier that I'm a high miler (40k+ annual) and Avons were mentioned, they didn't specify a model/type.

If you can find out the model, there are plenty of sites where you can look them up, including the manufacturer's own site and get user opinions on www.tyrereviews.co.uk. You can also look on sites like eiretyres, pneus online and oponeo for ideas of relative prices.

That sounds exceptionally cheap for 235/45 17 so at that price it is hard to go wrong.

Have had Avon ZZ3s on an XK8 for the past 5 years. they're fine tyres. Better than the Pirelli P-Zero that came with the car
