Deluging out there and a gale howling its discordant song,,, But I am HOME FOR CHRISTMAS! Sweet solitude and peace in here....Yesterday was manic but grand. After a quiet hour by the Christmas Garden in the cathedral, sheer magic..... Could not believe that the trolley I filled in ALDI cost only E9... fruit and vegetables and a few small treats..LIDL had very cheap turkeys, as did Dunne;s.... I had lunch in tesco; no not the cafe! They had samples of crisps, cheese and mince pies all set out on plates... and black pudding... yukk! But all shopped up.. will make pineapple jam after for market next year....Lights bought...Then I headed for Muckross and was wlecomed warmly ".backstage" at the Christmas Magic event there.. so aptly named! All my friends from the Traditional Farms were there so that was great..hugs all round.... I miss them in winter.. saw the elves wearing the hats I handknitted to order! They looked grand! Hoping for more paid work next year and to be out trading less. Oh the Christmas Trees there! Utter glory! The Mucklorian Village! Feasted on cake and hot chocolate with marshmallows and biscuits hot from the oven...Met Santa and had a photo taken..sheer bliss and was too stuffed to bother with soup I had promised myself.. On to Kenmare, where i realised it was Saturday and no bank or PO and there was me with my few cards written... Two 40 k sacks of coal into the car.... paperbacks from KLAWS shop, a huge thank you to the Craft shop who have let me have oddments and yarn at cost.... then HOME.. the driveway here is a morass and it was only the ashes and sand from the cat trays that helped me in...I have E1 and change in my bank account; all the rest is away to real need..I have all I need and more...Sheer luxury and bliss here.. time for prayer and rest and to get my disorderly house in order...HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!!!

I think your email to your grandmother accidentally got copy-pasted to boards.

Enjoy Grace, it's nice to see someone pleased as opposed to grouching (I am well versed in grouch so not pointing at anyone) I hope you keep safe at home for the week..

Its the little things Grace that make it more special. Your modest generosity is to be applauded.

I hope you have a lovely Christmas Grace.

What planet are you on? The weather here for the past few days has been bright and very mild. Bit of a wind this morning but hardly a storm. The warmest December on record.

Home is the place for Christmas alright. Family all around. Neighbours calling in. Good food, good company. A parish breakfast after mass and a few old acquaintances renewed. A busy time but a time for relaxation too. Love it!

I am 400 ft up in the South Kerry mountains and we have hail and thunder here and the temperature is down to 10 and set to go down further. The wind is gusty and chill...

It's like a spring day here, Bright sunshine, a light breeze, a daffodil out, the oxeye daisies giving a nice show. I think I'll give xmass a miss, nature seems to agree. And the Solstice tomorrow.

I came home for Christmas a few weeks earlier than planned due to me having a bit of an accident. I thought I'd be totally fed up of it by now but I have to say there's something lovely about being here for all the preparation that I missed the last few years.
Theres nothing like the smell of the puddings being boiled or the swearing from my poor dad as he tries to get my grandfather's 65 year old lanterns to work for one more year!
Can't wait till the rest of the family get here now and it will really be Christmas!

The weather at Christmas often settles into this mild phase or crisp and dry. Either allows us take extra family walks in the mountains and to do our usual philosophising and general bulls###ing about the meaning of life, the cures for all ills etc as we scramble through heather.

It's a great time to reflect, take stock, bond and laugh.
