weirdest satellite issue ever!

Okay so one dish (astra 28.2) that is split on the roof 2 ways, one tv has a new receiver and the other is quite old to be fair.
The new one works 100%, but the old one is where I'm having trouble.. it has simple lost all signals, so today i replaced the splitter which you'd think would've sorted it but only some channels come in now.
Sky news works and the music stations but hardly anything else, it has all the rest in the epg but shows nothing.
And where it gets even weirder is I moved the old box to the other room and it all worked again!
After replacing the splitter and the fact that one line is perfect I really am stumped.

    All suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    What splitter did you replace?

There shouldn't be a "splitter". Each box should have its own cable direct from an independent connection on the LNB.

    Splitter?

Have you just added a second box to a single satellite feed by using a passive splitter like this?

Its my mums house so not fully sure of the set up, i didn't do it, there's seems to be a ****load of cables on the roof, and two similar looking splitters or whatever you call them

I'll say it again. You cannot split the cable between the LNB(presumably a quad - 4 possible connections) and the box. At least you know what your problem is!

Pretty sure you cant use splitters on a single feed as some stations are broadcast at different freq H for horizontal & V for vertical the LNB ( funny object at the end of the pole protuting from the Dish) requires a voltage change Icould be wrong 13 + 18 V to switch
if one box is watching a vertical freq then the other box cant watch Horizontal channels
You really need 2 seperate cables from the Lnb so that each receiver can change V or H
if you split the cable you can only watch stations on the same band H or V
    Hope this helps

No pretty sure about it, connecting 2 boxes to a single LNB output will not work properly and worse than that 2 boxes feeding voltage to the same LNB output at the same time can damage the LNB and the boxes.

How would it damage the LNB?

Probably a better explanation than the one I gave
