When did MIB 2 come to the Golf 7 in Ireland?
I see references to build week 22, am assuming that's car's built end the end of May '15, so there's a reasonably good chance that a 152 will have it.

Looks like it's "Modular Infotainment Platform" http://www.digitaltrends.com/infotainment-system-reviews/volkswagen-mib-ii-review/ :)

Basically it is Apple CarPlay, Android Auto baked into the infotainment.

It does look like a giant leap forward for VW considering how they were always behind the curve, e.g., a golf from only a few years ago wouldn't even have an aux input, and MP3 CD player was the best they could come up with.

Now you've got bluetooth, SD card, USB, aux in, and on the face of it a half decent integration with iOS and android.

Build week 45 onwards I think. So not all 152's will have it (such as my own, naturally.. Ha).

Week 45! Probably some 161's won't have it at that rate!

All 161's should have it alright, unless you manage to get an older unreg'd 2015 car somehow. Think some cars from before that date had it also but it was just guaranteed from then I think.

Anything with the 6.5 inch screen will be MIB2. So MY16 onwards, build week 22 of this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

The screen is apparently much better too.

Anything built from Week 22 onwards. Not necessarily anything 152, as there's probably loads of 152's out there that were actually built before week 22.

Apple CarPlay (App connect) is not standard anyway. It's a factory option but it should be retro-fittable in the not too distant future.

Easiest way to tell if it's MIB2 or not is the screen size. It's 6.5" now and doesn't have the glossy black frame like MIB1 did around the smaller 5.8" screen. The screen resolution is much better too and generally much smoother and faster to use.

If you cough up for the Nav Pro unit, that does have CarPlay as standard.

No mention of this in the product guide and salespersons quite clueless. If you know the code, can you spec it I wonder? And any ideas on cost?

Does this also mean that USB is still and option?

Yeah the option code is not in the official specs, you have to ask the sales guy to look it up and enter it manually into your order! The code is 9WT. Not sure of the cost but it's £100 in the UK and around €150 in Germany - so in or around those numbers.

USB is standard. It replaces the old "MDI" connection, so for example, if you have an iPhone you can just use your normal charging cable and the radio will play music via that connection.

When you add the tech pack on the GTD online, it adds car-net which appears to include carplay.

    It doesn't.

So you think a 161 GTD won't have car play as standard?

Hopefully an easy activation with an activation code.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

The hardware will be there, the activation codes are starting to become available.

I don't think, I know it doesn't have it as standard. You either:
    - spec pro Nav where it is standard (€1000+)
    - spec App connect (€200 ish)
    - get dealer to retro-activate it when available. (€300 ish)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

Ah, I have app-connect anyway on my order sheet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭JoeA3

"Car-net" will be listed on your standard order sheet. Option Code is YOW. This just gives you some online portal stuff, ability to search for Navigation POI's, view weather / news headlines.... All kinda gimmicky stuff

App-Connect won't be on the order sheet unless you specifically requested it - the code is 9WT and it costs approx €200 extra. If 9WT is on your order sheet you'll get it. Otherwise you won't.

I'll have to be happy with MIB1. Picking up a 152 next week and it has the MDI port, ergo I'm presuming MIB1, as elsewhere in this thread someone reckoned USB is standard in MIB2...

    :(

Have you a pic of the headunit? The screen size will tell you.

    I will on Thursday!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭JoeA3

yeah if it's the old MDI port then it's MIB 1. That's been replaced with a USB interface.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

Dealer again confirmed carplay definitely included. They'll be paying for the activation code if it's not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 299 ✭✭CGI_3

    Hi Joe,

There's 2 iPhone cables coming with the car. Is it possible to get an mdi to USB cable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Did you specifically spec it? Did you spec Nav Pro?
If answer is No to both of the above, it will not have CarPlay. And the activation codes are still not available to best of my knowledge.

Yeah I believe it is but I think I remember reading some place that the cables aren't particularly cheap. Make sure to lean on the dealer to throw one in.

Didn't pay extra anyway. Phoned him again today and he specifically said carplay was included. I asked was it proper Apple carplay and he said yes.

I know the codes are available in the UK now, not sure about here yet. He'll have to sort it now after being so specific about it.

That's the code, part number is 5G0054830A as far as I know.

Mine didn't come with a cable, has Apple CarPlay and works fine but it's the discover pro.

Just ordered a new Passat Highline Business Edition with the Discover Pro nav and Tech Pack, anyone know will it have Carplay and Android Auto? Haven't been able to get a straight answer from dealer besides it having MirrorLink.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

    Yep, it will.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 234 ✭✭KingCong

    Yep, it will.

Great thanks, that's good to hear. So won't need activation codes or anything like that, carplay and android auto should be there out of the box?

Used it on a MY16 Passat HL BE at the weekend that didn't require any activation codes.
