Job ideas for someone not fluent in English

    So,

My Italian boyfriend is coming over in January. He loves Ireland and is very excited to be coming back to live here. He already has a degree in Engineering and wants to do his masters here. To do this he will need to pass a very difficult English exam and save enough money for the fees. So he needs to find a job ASAP.

The only problem now being his command of English, which is currently quite good but he still makes a lot of basic mistakes. Getting a job will help improve this I would imagine but finding one in the first place is the problem!

Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe you've been through a similar experience or heard of something that could be suitable? This is worth a shot because I'm drawing a blank! Ideally something in the engineering field would be amazing but if not he is willing to do other jobs so long as he gets experience speaking english!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Contact centres are often looking out for people with languages.

If you go on to some of the job sites such as Irishjobs.ie, Indeed.ie and do a search for the word Italian you will see quite a few jobs advertised depending in where in the country you will be based. Perhaps he should go through these and see if there are any he likes the look of. You might be able to help him by proof reading applications as he might have a better chance of getting an interview if there are no basic mistakes.

Most of these jobs would be working in the likes of shared services centers but dealing with Italian clients. This would mean that being fluent in Italian (i.e. native speaker) would be more important than perfect English. You say that his level of English is already quite good so I would think that as long as he can understand an interviewer and do a reasonable job of replying in English he should be OK.

I have worked in environments like that before and the workers who dealt in different language teams got plenty of practice in English as all of the communication other than directly with the client were done through English. So all of the internal emails and notes on customer files etc were English and as there were people working in lots of different markets English was the lingua franca socially in the office.

Apple were recently hiring Italian speakers for their work at home jobs.
