Rear Bike Carrier for Adult and Kids Bikes

I'm looking for a bike carrier to take adult and kids bikes to the park. No towbar so it must be rear mounted and ideally would fit a 05 Corolla Verso and an 07 Focus hatchback. Halfords reckoned that the rear mounted ones are only suitable for adult bikes and they didn't have any to fit the Corolla anyway.

Anyone have any recommendations Ideally not looking to spend mad money on it either as it will only have occasional use.

You'd see dozens of cars on the ferry to France any summer with kids bikes hanging off rear carriers, so it's certainly possible. How secure they all are is another matter. Strap on bike carriers tend to suspend bikes from two arms, which seem to be spaced with adult frames in mind. You might have to put one of those arms through the rear triangle, or through a wheel to get it to fit. You might have to tie one end on if the frame was an awkward shape. Ideally you would try before you buy, but it's likely you could get it to work. Smaller bikes will probably fit in the boot if it's a reasonable size.

Here's one that fits the verso.

Thanks. That might work alright was kind wondering how i'd get the kids bikes on but what you're saying makes sense and with a bungee cord or similar I probably could make it work.
Unfortunately too many kids so no boot space left thus needing the carrier.

Cheers looks pretty much like what I'm looking for at about the price point too.

    bungee cord or similar

Get one of the ratchet cargo straps you see in Lidl/Aldi from time to time. Safer than bungee cords for securing bikes.

I used zip ties on Lil Ms Carawaystick's bmx sized bike this summer.

I've a Hollywood F4 which can take two adult and two kids bikes handy enough. Had an issue fully loaded on one long trip where one of the pedals dinged the boot going over a rough road, but ok outside of that. Since then I tend to take the pedal off when using it. A tow bar mounted one would probably be better if you have the tow bar.

I have a peruzzo rear mounted one from Mick's Garage, that I've managed to fit the chaps 20 inch wheeled mountain bso's on secure enough I've gone down the country with them and an adult bike on. Can't remember whether there was a bodge, but don't recall it being too much hassle to be honest.

Can't remember the model of the carrier or how I got them on, so I suppose I am saying it is probably possible!
