    Hi

I will be returning to Ireland from Canada next year so will be gone two years.
I swapped my Irish licence for a Saskatchewan one thinking I would be entitled to get a new licence when I return but I just read on NDLS site that they will only exchange and Ontario or Manitoba licence.

I've had my Irish licence for 10 years or more and its crucial for work when I return, surely I don't have to start at the beginning all over again:confused:

You already are Irish with a previously full Irish licence in our system.
Mail or ring NDLS and explain and I'm sure it won't be an issue.

    From citizens information.ie:

You are entitled to apply to renew your driving licence if:

You hold a driving licence that will expire within 3 months
You held a driving licence that expired less than 10 years ago

I'd imagine you could avail of this even though you technically swapped rather than let it expire

Was your Irish licence retained by the Saskatchewan driving authorities? If it was, then the odds are that your driver record reflects this and you no longer have an entitlement for an Irish licence. Call the NDLS helpline 0761 087880 and they will check if you have a valid entitlement to renew.
