    Hey all,

Just wondering are all insurance companies going to put up premiums?? I got mine today and was fairly annoyed with it.. I rang them an he said something about a 15% increase across the country because of the surge in claims.. So would I be wasting my time if I looked into it or would it just be a case of having to ring around to find out? Cheers folks

All going up but shop around always.

From recent experience (3 different renewals in this family) a few calls to Brokers, rather than dealing directly with Insurers or online brokers, produced far better quotes in 2 cases.

Nearly always worthwhile shopping around rather than accepting the first renewal quote. Just make sure to check what you're getting for your money as policies vary in the level of cover, policy excess and extras.

As far as I know there are 31 insurance companies in Ireland, so I'd spend a full day getting quotes for the cheapest. The problem with most folk is that they say that they haven't got the time to be searching for quotes, but by doing so you can save yourself a few hundred euro. I personally every year spend 2 days looking for quotes and haggling.

Never be lazy, search until you drop. If you are doing an online quote with chill insurance... turn your phone off because as soon as you input your number they will ring you and will interfere with your deep objective of looking for the best quote from 31 companies, they're good at their job and can entice you into their policy.

Hint number 1... Turn off your phone while searching online for quotes :)

...or just stick in the number of your local Chinese Takeaway ;).

I got an absolutely fantastic quote from liberty insurance.. Would I be biting of more then I can chew if I joined them from AXA?? Have they redeemed themselves anyway?

If the price is good and the policy suits your needs then definitely go for it!

Liberty are fine. I have both my car and bike insured with them. Just don't go with there renewal quote. Usually it's grossly over exaggerated.

But again shop around. I found AA close on there quotes with AA membership for a few extra quid. Depends on what you need, just becareful. I have cheap quotes but all my policy's are third party because the bike and car are worth 1000€ or less so no need for it as I can replace it myself and even if I did have it I be wondering if it be worth it to claim if either where stolen.

Can you drive other cars on those?

Yes. Provided youve a full license and the car is taxed, ncted and not in your name. Doesn't have to be insured either but can be makes no difference.

That's interesting. For years I've been going full comp just so I can have that extension even though my cars are always worth sfa. I'll try 3rd party next time :)

Always used my policy's this way with them. Mind you it doesn't apply with commercials and not sure about bikes will have to look at the details as only on a Lerner permit so can't either way.

Also worth a mention never had an incident where I have had to use it so not sure how it would play out. Also I apply a few rules. I keep to driving cars that are at or below the cc of the main insured car and make sure that car is in good order !

Third party is as dear as fully comp, it's a real mess out there jesus. There last august I had accomplished my 8th no claims bonus point and have a guess what happened... yep, my insurance went up. No-claims bonuses are a figment of imagination now because you actually pay for having one in this backward twilight-zone country.

Why the heck is my insurance going up every year when I add my 8+ years no claims bonus to it ?

It is amazing to think in this time that we have to pay more for car insurance because ass-holes out there drive without insurance ? I heard next year (not far away) there will be an increase of €300 to insure your car.

Greed like a Star Network set-up within these insurance companies all competing against each-other to fcuk the joe-soap.

I never understand why some people are reluctant to leave their current insurer if they find a more competitive quote elsewhere. Insurance companies give no loyalty to their customers so customers should always do the same and shop around every year.

I felt absolutely no loyalty from AXA.. My premium went from 822.10 to 978.11 and the best they'd could do was 970.00 I laughed down the phone at him..

Gonna renew in Jan. Last year was €540 the best quote Ive gotten so far (online) was €750. When i ring them up they say they cant give me a quote if my renewal date is longer than 21 days away. Presumably this is an industry standard to prevent people shopping around i.e. most people will forget until the last minute and then stick with their current insurers.

It's not to prevent you shopping around, it's because rates change on a weekly (sometimes daily basis). Also, insurers don't want to allocate staff resources in giving quotes to people when the business is not available to secure for months yet.

Anyway, what's 'last minute' with 3 weeks notice?

    Hi Lads,

Had a shock this year my insurance went from €402 on a Subaru Impreza to €670 on a Toyota Yaris! TPFT from FBD.

    Fecking bonkers!

Within the 3 weeks renewal time did online comparisons (my phone was (086) 1111111 :) )

What fun, AA came back with €425, so going with them :)

My policy with Allianz went from €425 to €565, after a good bit of ringing around all were either as expensive or moreso except for Blue. I even went for the 2 year policy at €780. Think the 1 year was €420.

I can't understand this bull**** of insurance increases of 15% and they can't do any better but if you spend a bit of time you'll get it cheaper.. Bank of Ireland, liberty and 123 came in a good bit cheaper then my renewal from AXA
