There is a very interesting debate on retro-fit cavity wall insulation, in UK.

    http://www.construction-manager.co.uk/comment/price-failed-cav8ity-wall-insu4lation-hom4eowners/

"When retrofit cavity wall insulation is installed to a property that is located or built in a way that means it is not suitable to have the cavities filled, or if the work is undertaken incorrectly, the first and most obvious sign of a problem is almost always internal dampness."

same issue with drylining, but you don't see the dampness..

It's a shame the seai didn't see fit to require third party pre & post surveys of grant aided upgrades

I'd like to see the technical side of this report, the two articles linked to only seem to directly mention mineral wool fill

All of the articles I have read on cavity fill disasters in the UK relate to the use of mineral wool. Installers mis-sold "free insultion" using this stuff, guaranteeing that it was water-impermeable. The reality was that it was like stuffing your walls with a cotton wool sponge.
