Airlines changing flights

Have a flight booked for me and some family members next May.

Flying out about mid day and returning to Dublin at 6pm

Just got notification that the outbound flight has been changed to 7am which I'm not too happy about and the returning one doesn't arrive in until 1am!! I have work the next day and family members do too but have to travel 2.5 hours first, which is why I selected the flights I did.

I hate when airlines do this!!!

Is my only option to book 4 more flights at my own cost at a suitable time??

Well I don't WANT to cancel. I want to go on the trip. We're attending a concert and tickets and accommodation have all been pre-booked!

Can you not change flight times?

The airline should let you do that FOC as they are the ones changing the times.

If there's nothing suitable you will have to cancel and look at an alternative option.

Unfortunately airline timetables are subject to change, particularly when, for example, you book well in advance.

What reason for schedule change did they give , is there a flight still going at the original time that's over booked or have tge moved the original flight time ?

So it turns out there's a 'flight revision' and flights are down to just one inbound and one outbound from what I can gauge on the aerlingus site!

I notice ryanair are operating a flight that would suit better so I will book with them and cancel original flights.

That's the best thing to do.

What route is it?

Anyone know if travel insurance covers out of pocket expenses, (such as having to re book a different and more expensive flight) if the airline cancels your original one, or the time change is so drastic, it is unworkable for you?

It's Dublin - Lisbon.

I'm not sure what I'd do if the Ryanair prices were much higher than what I'd originally booked. Actually I wasn't informed of how much of a refund I'd get - I'm keeping the original outbound booking but cancelled & rebooked the inbound one. I probably should have asked.....!

If the other prices were a lot higher, I'd definitely be out of pocket as the only other option was to take a flight the previous day. But I've already paid for accommodation and it was non-refundable! A couple of hours I could have managed, but when it's arriving into Dublin at 1am, and with work the next day, it wasn't workable.

So an update. I still haven't received my refund, but phoned to ask how much I will receive. €119. I had to pay €161 to book the new flights with Ryanair. Seems unfair that I have to pay more because their flight schedule was changed so dramatically :-(

Unfortunately what you pay for new flights is irrelevant in deciding what you get refunded.

Just the price of the original flights.

Yeah I know. It's just unfortunate. If the return flight wasn't so late I'd have stuck with it.
