What size engine to get?

Looking at getting a Toyota Yaris. Have seen a few that interest me but as I know very little about cars would appreciate some advice.

I do mostly city driving, but will be starting a job in January for 6 months which is in Wexford, so will be driving up and back once a week (from Dublin). I was looking at a 1L yaris, but now I can't decide if it's worth going for a 1.33L instead for that motorway driving. Will there be much of a difference in a 1L and a 1.3L on a motorway?

Price wise, the difference for a 1.3 and 1 L is about €2000/€2500 (same year, 1L slightly lower mileage). This puts the 1.3 car out of budget so I would have to get an older car.
I have also seen the 1.4 diesel for the same price as the 1.3, but seeing as most of my driving is in towns I'm thinking a petrol car would be better.

Advice please on whether it would be better to get the newer 1L or an older 1.3L?

1.33 shouldn't be commanding any premium used.
It it a far superior engine though, and regardless of mileage done it'll serve you better. The 1.0 is very unrefined and the 6 speed 1.33 is more economical in real life, especially on the motorway.
    What budget do you have?

If your doing motorway driving then better off getting something the size of an Auris over a Yaris. Small cars are primarily designed for urban driving. Bigger cars are that bit more refined not to mention more comfortable.

Yeah, if I was primarily doing motorway driving I'd go for at least a 1.4, but other than the next 6 months driving up and down to Wexford from Dublin once a week, I don't do much motorway driving. Drive a 1.4 at the moment, so was worried what a 1L would be like.

My budget is around 8K, although if I found a good deal I would be willing to pay a bit more. I've been looking at the Yaris, as I've said, and also Fiestas and had a quick look at the i20 as well. All around 2010. Any other suggestions of cars in this category I should take a look at?

I've driven a 1.3 Yaris and it's rather short on power so I'd shudder at the thought of a 1.0 to be honest. The Yaris is an awful car though, granted they're extremely reliable but otherwise they are dire, please consider anything else!

Grand, that's the 1L out of the question anyway so. I'm looking for reliable ;)
What would you suggest other than a yaris? Are fiestas and polos of this age reliable cars? Had an old fiesta which I loved before my brother crashed it years ago.

The 6 speed dual vvti one is a nice bit nippier than the older 1.3. IIRC it came out around late 2008 or early 09. It's 100bhp. Think the older 1.3 5 speed was 85bhp.

The reliability of the MkII Yaris is nothing special. They were cheaply built too.
