Brakes not biting with new discs & pads

    Hi all,

Never posted in the motors forum so please excuse any general ignorance I'm displaying.

I've just had new pads and discs fitted on my car.
On the drive home from work I noticed that the brakes felt quite spongey and the travel of the pedal was much further than usual.

I know they may need bedding in but it seems quite extreme, much more so than any other time I've had new pads or anything.
I'll be most likely bringing it back to the garage tomorrow but is there anything obvious I can have them check?

    Cheers all"

The pistons might be sticking as they had to be pushed back to get the new ones in, or bad seals.Maybe try pumping the pedal, while stopped to see if it helps but I don't know if the garage did this after the replacement pads. But as you say, they will need bedding in too, which will help too.Otherwise, go back to them.

I wonder did the garage take off the protective film that discs come with.I assume they did as they are professional.........

Sounds like air in the line - most likely they need bleeding.

There shouldn't be much bedding in needed with new pads and discs as the two surfaces are flat.

Bring it back to the garage and get them to check it.

I was assuming it's air myself so I'll get them to check that this morning!
    Thanks for the responses.

Sounds very much like the brakes need to be bled.

For normal everyday use there is no real bedding in, brakes should be 95% effective from the moment they're fitted.

Just a few pushes on the pedal after pad change should be enough to get pressure in system back to normal.
Yeah, go back and let them have a look.
