    It's more an insurance policy than a warranty.

    Your basically taking out an insurance policy against certain mechanical defects on the car. It could also be seen as a get out of jail card for the dealer who sold you the car, to tell you go away if you come back to him with a problem. Just make sure you read and understand all the terms, conditions and exclusions on the policy before taking rather than later on when you find out something ain't covered.

    In my experience they are difficult to claim on. They also usually exclude wear and tear which can make it very difficult to claim.
