does a work contract in Ireland need to be signed by both parties?

We are relocating to Ireland for work and my wife has been given a contract of employment by a multinational company in Dublin. She has signed it and returned it but we're curious to know if we too should have a signed copy for it to be valid or does it not matter? thanks in advance

Well I'm not in HR, but every contract I've handed out to be signed there has always been two.
One for HR to keep and one for the employee.
If there are any amendments such as a pay rise or renegotiated perks it has always been two signed copies.
