Rotating hair straightener/styler

    Hey folks,

My better half mentioned an interest in one of those rotating hair straightener/stylers doing the rounds at the moment - something similar to the InStyler but I think it was a different brand.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how those types of straighteners compare to the regular 'clamp' style and whether they're a worthwhile investment for someone with curly hair (that tends to struggle to keep straight).

If so, what's the best brand out there at the moment?

    Thanks

    Hiya.
I have and love the remington big hair styler. It's a rotating brush with hot air and you use it on damp hair. Gives a blow dry like a salon.
I just run my straighteners over it after perfect hair.

I would sugget the Babyliss Big Hair. It comes in 2 sizes. I would go for the larger one of her hair is shoulder length or longer. . Best thing i ever bought. Gives a salon blowdry... I am on my 3rd one, only cos i use it so much and the bristles eventually wear down.
Wish my other half paid half as much attention to what i say as you do to yours!!! Hehe

That's actually the one I was on about :o
Fab isn't it. On my 2nd one got the smaller one this time much better for my really fine hair.

    Agree, you're very thoughtful.

Just realised you mentioned she has curly hair.
Depending on how tight the curl is, the big hair may not suit. I have a curl but its not tight at all.
I have heard that the Steam Pod is meant to be brilliant for straightening hair. Far better than a ghd.
I think you can get them for 150 ish in Peter Marks.

No recommendations here but I just wanted to give my two cents on the Instyler. I was so keen to try it after watching the tutorials, especially because loose voluminous waves are my go-to look. I think its crap. It does nothing for me at all. I get far better results from curling my hair with a wand, letting the curls cool and then brushing them out with a paddle brush.

I ended up giving it to my mom who uses it for a sleek straight blowdried look, which its great for, but not the kind of look I'd go for myself. Waste of money for me! Will try the Babyliss Big Hair next I think.

I've got quite a curl in my hair and I find the larger Babyliss Big Hair really good, it gives really similar results to a salon blowdry. The only thing I would say is that it's not fantastic on the roots so she may need to run the straighteners over her roots at the end, but that's done in a matter of minutes. I would get two days out of the style as well.

Thanks for all the responses - she doesn't have a particularly tight curl so I don't think that will be an issue. Looks like a fairly resounding endorsement for the Babyliss!

Great stuff. Glad we could help.
On piece of advise, tell her to look up how to use it on you tube. It does take a little practise to get a method to suit her, but then its easy peasy....

    Will do - thanks!

(And a stupid question to follow up - anything I should/could get to go with it to make the job any easier or better? I'm presuming it works fine on its own but just in case there are any accessories worth having too)

No not really. She probably has stuff anyway like a smoothing serum etc esp if she has curls. Just make sure to buy the larger barrelled brush if she has shoulder length hair.
Check the prices for the Big Hair in Boots, Harvey Norman and Debenhams as they can vary...
