So, another question I have is how much i should expect to pay for a rear brake service.

I have disks, pads and brake fluid.

    Car is a 06 320D

It depends if the calipers are seized etc. Not many decent mechanics will accept you bringing your own parts though so you may struggle to find a good garage to do the job.

Yeah and it's a complete pain when you bring your parts and 2 hours later get a phone call telling you that the parts are for the wrong car.

Then the mechanics are out of pocket because a spot in the garage is wasted and you are trying to get the right parts while your car is on the lift in the garage.

Have a good garage to do the work and who don't mind me supplying parts.

The only problem is every time i go to collect I'm floored by the size of the bill.

Would like an indication of what a good indie would charge.

Is it front and rear pads and discs

Might sound obvious, but if they're a good garage that don't mind you supplying your own parts, why not just ring them and ask how moch it will be?

Worst case would be them giving you an hourly rate and an estimate of how long it should take without any complications.

If they're not prepared to do that, then I would think of looking elsewhere.

Discs and pads only or handbrake shoes also?

    Just discs and pads.

The bmwservice.ie site is crazy stupid.

In this instance i have Brembo pads and discs to be fitted. Usually if i get a company to supply and fit there's all sorts of issues about "we only do this etc" and i end up with the usual crap.

I can do this myself but don't have the time. Will be sending to this garage i use but just need a comparative idea of pricing.

Many thanks for all the responses.

You are essentially paying a premium for bringing your own parts. If the garage is good they will only use quality parts so why not let them source the bits in future? They will get them cheaper than you can and you will pay less overall.
