Root Beer anyone?

Has anyone here ever made root beer? The non-alcoholic kind, I mean. It's something I'd love to try making myself at some point. I'd also like to do an alcoholic version as well, but the idea is to try make a standard softdrink first. Anyone have any experience of this?
