Illness Benefit or Qualified Adult Payment?

Hi, had a phone call from a relation of mine asking me about a social welfare claim, I have no idea but hope someone on here might be able to help.

Basically he is claiming jobseekers allowance and is getting a qualifying adult payment also for his wife, she works but is below the €310 threshold apparently.

Anyway, she was ill recently for about a fortnight and sent off Illness benefit forms that the doc gave her. She has now received a form back from S/W saying that as her husband is claiming for her as a qualified adult she can't claim Illness Benefit while being on her husbands Jobseekers at the same time as a qualified adult, but the form, which I haven't seen asks her to tick a box to either A) Claim for illness benefit and be dropped from her husbands jobseekers allowance as a qualified Adult or B) stay on her husbands jobseekers allowance as a qualified adult.

They have no idea which option to tick or which would be best even.

    Any advice appreciated.

Illness Benefit payment rate is calculated on the applicants earnings and work record for the last qualifying year (2014). If the wife's earnings are low, the the Benefit payment is likely to be relatively low as well. She may well get less than what hubby is getting for her. What she should do is call to her local Welfare office and ask them to do the calculation and she will then know if hubby's qualifying adult payment is greater. If it is, she can cancel her claim. Another aspect to consider is that if her claim is worthwhile, the time it will take Welfare to calculate the 2 weeks payment and then transfer her back to hubby's claim could amount to several weeks. Again, she should clarify that with Welfare.
