    Hi all,
I understand current TCD SU president Lynn Ruane has decided to run for the senate. (I was unaware that a undergrad could do this)

As a graduate, I know nothing about her or her policys.
To be honest I don't really care either. I'm sure its typical wishy washy stuff I have come to expect from student politics
What I would really like to know is who is she politically affiliated with.

I know most SU Presidents claim not to be affiliated with any party. But in my experience and my dealings with SU elections. This is rarely the case.

    Can anyone enlighten me.

    Thanks

    Also
Can anyway run for a university seat?

Perhaps, walking arm in arm with Joan Burton certainly means she may lie in that camp.

I've met her before but don't know her personally: I've a lot of respect for her. Single teenage mother who dropped out of school, worked supporting drug addicts before going to college through an access course as a mature student.

She's got a lot of drive and pulled herself up by her own bootstraps. I'd take her over our usual shower of career senators anyday. As far as I know, she has no political party affiliations. She'd definetely be on the left though, having heard her speak (very pro education and supporting working class people accessing it)

Agreed, I have a very positive impression of her too. Full of brains and talking a lot of sense about educational policy in the face of the leaked Casserly report. As you've said she's someone who has really pulled herself up from tough circumstances and earned a position of prominence. Knows the real meaning of hard work versus the rest of the usual chancers. Hopefully one of the many bright emerging young people into politics. We need more of them
