Distraught call from womenfolk on way to theatre to say they got a text at 6:08 pm to say tonight's performance of Mary Poppins has been cancelled. Want to know why.

    i haven't a clue. Has anyone?

Nothing on Bord Gais website. Or Ticketmaster.

But other people have been getting the text message too.

The children in the cast are only allowed to do a certain number of shows. Today was switch cast day and flights were cancelled so the new children weren't able to perform. Can't have Mary Poppins without Jane and Michael Banks ;)

    Whaat???

And they only told people about this at 6pm? My girls had already left for the show and we live within walking distance. Just imagine if you'd promised your kids a night at the theatre and you were coming up from the suburbs, or from a neighbouring county?

And what sort of lame-ass excuse is that? Don't they have understudies for Jane and Michael Banks?
    Were all flights cancelled?
    Where were they coming from?
Couldn't they have got an alternative flight?
Were they leaving so late in the day that a missed flight would have precluded their appearance?
Do we HAVE to fly in kids from overseas for a performance such as this?
Is that not a form of child trafficking?

The producers of this should be hung from that interesting looking sculpture outside the BG Theatre by their private parts.

    Pathetic. :mad::mad::mad:

...er....unless of course they're from that promotions company that is not allowed to be mentioned on Boards because of a cockup they made on an earlier event.

Mind you, bet they wouldn't do that to the audience at a Barbara Streisand concert ;)

Well they might but by God they'd regret it.

    Careful now...

I seen this on twitter earlier. A lot of people are very unimpressed and I can't blame them. Very disappointing if you have been looking forward to this show.

It's pretty standard the cast are probably a touring cast from the UK including the kids.

Did you hear anything about ticket replacements? It's sold so well I'd say it would be tough to accommodate everyone that missed out tonight. I'm seeing it at the weekend and would be very annoyed if it happened to me. Hope you get sorted.

OK. Fly them in the day before then. Apparently they were scheduled on a 12 pm flight!!! For a curtain up at 7:30. Doesn't leave too much margin for error, does it?

    Really poor organisation.

I don't know the answers to most of your questions but having seen the show it definitely wouldn't have been an option to use Irish kids for the week. They are huge parts that require months of rehearsal, kids usually do three months at a time.

Three Months? Well then it would hardly be a major budgetary inconvenience to fly them over the day before and put them up in a hotel, would it?

Look. I didn't go myself (Real man me. Don't watch musicals Hooahh. See that Bears game last night?) but I have to live with two seethingly angry young women who have been royally shafted and not in a good way.

There is no excuse for this haphazard organisation. Yeah child actors have to be accommodated, flights get cancelled, **** happens. But you PLAN for these sorts of things. You may not know the answers to my questions but FFS the producers should. And they should have asked them of themselves while planning the show.

Sending people a text "Show cancelled tonight. Call this number for a refund" while they're on their way to the theatre is just insulting.

Bad form alright. Am I the only one thinking the price for this show is ridiculous. A pair of the cheapest seats over a €100?

Expensive show to stage. I paid £75 when I saw it in London
