    Hi.

I have a very poor DSL connection, I guess lots of you guys will have experienced the likes. Ok'ish during the day, but terrible in the evenings and weekend. Lucky to get 1mbit down and sometimes it can be next to nothing up.I do get nice fast speeds on my mobile data which shows up as H or H+ on my Samsung S4. My sister is law next door is also reporting nice speeds on her 4G enabled iphone. So just looking into this as an possible alternative. So I have a few questions?

    1. I see you can get a pre-payed sim for a phone for €20 a month with all you can eat data, free calls, texts, etc. I know you can use a 4g enabled phone as an access point but with limited connections and it drains the battery quickly. Is it possible to use one of these pre-payed phone sims in a 4g dongle/hub instead of a phone just for 4g data and if so which devices are best to look at?

    2. My son does a bit of gaming online via xbox. I'd imagine while not being ideal, 4g based on the experience that I have on H+ is anything to go by it should be better than the dsl I already have, or is it not as simple as that.

    3. Which 4g ISP is best to go with.

    4. I think I read that these all you can eat 4g packages will come to an end next summer. Do you think there will be expensive and restrictive once they end?

    5. Be interested to hear your experiences if any of you have gone down this route.

    Thanks

What network are you considering for 4G? If it is Three you should have a look at their forum on boards beforehand.

Yeah I'd say looking at the coverage it would be Three or Vodafone. My phone and my sister in law's phone are on the Three network. So we know at least it works pretty well.

Hi. I did some tests with my three phone. I discovered I can use 4g on my S4. Results were 18 down and 12 up with a ping of 35. It used my 1gb data in record time.just a couple of trailers in 1080 on youtube, but it did load them in a few seconds!

Is anyone using the €20 all you can eat payg sim in a 4g hub/router as their broadband solution?

Or is anyone using the €20 all you can eat payg sim in a 4g phone as an access point as their broadband solution?

    Pm me if you prefer.

i use 4g as a backup for when my main line goes down. it actually seems faster but the data used for my purposes is expensive.

would it make sense for you to go for the all you can eat data package?
