Equipment needed for this Configuration

    Hi,

I'm planning on getting a dish (with a quattro lnb) & aerial installed. The aim is to provide feeds to around 5 TV points.

Lets assume each TV point only has 2 cable feeds, I know something like this multiswitch would combine the aerial and sat feeds into one cable and then at the face plate they would be split.

Is there any loss of signal using such a switch? i.e does the aerial feed need to be boosted in any way?

Also I expect to have one TV point doing some recording, can I just use any of the surplus switch output feeds to provide another sat feed, or does it have to be split? I know there are 2xsat+1aerial faceplates, but is there anything like 2xsat+2xaerial faceplate?

    Thanks in advance

    W.

The multiswitch is powered and should give the aerial feed sufficient signal around the house. If you want to split the aerial feed at the faceplate with a single aerial socket a quality splitter like this or this depending on the gender of the faceplate aerial socket.

Yes you can use any of the outputs to provide another sat feed to a TV point and no, it doesn't have to be split as the multiswitch does that.

    Thanks,

Any recommendations on a suitable multiswitch? (that would last, not necessarily not top range stuff). I ask as I'm getting quotes in and they range between €100-€200? Thought they were a bit dear. One quote was for a 5x12 switch, why so many outputs?, its not an apartment setup

Whats the brand like in my original post out of curiosity...
    Thanks

    W

Wouldn't be able to recommend a specific make/model.

Regarding the number of outputs, how many sat/aerial feeds do you require to each TV point (a sat PVR will require 2 feeds to a TV point)? If you wish to feed 5 TV points with 2 cables each that's 10 outputs, a 5x12 switch is probably the closest.

Just reading around here and it seems Triax can be over priced, while emp-centauri gets good feedback. This 5x12 can be delivered for €112 which is cheaper than I've been quoted.

I'm thinking of doing all the donkey work (ie cables, connectors, plates etc), and just get an installer to erect the disk, lnb & aerial and verify I get
    pictures at the tv point(s)

With a multiswitch and quattro lnb for a house installation do i/should i go with a larger than standard (60m?) dish?

    Thanks in advance

I'd recommend that, doing it yourself allows you to do a tidier job IMO, you taking the time to decide where and how to run the cabling, fitting wallplates etc.

You could let the installer decide that. My own experience, a few years ago I installed a 60cm dish for my sister in Dublin feeding 4 TV points direct with no signal issues since. The 3 satellites at 28°E are all now relatively new hi power ones so IMO a 60cm should suffice.
