    Hi,

Is Pyrite still a real and tangible risk where new builds are concerned in Ireland?

Is it a much reduced risk?

Is there anything whatsoever in place for prospective buyers to protect themselves against future consequences of Pyrite?

There is a much updated specification for fill to be used underneath buildings and as aggregate in concrete.

Look up SR21 and particularly Annex E of this code.

The assigned certifier for any building project should be receiving a copy of the Annex E certification used for the fill in the project.

Of course all of this is dependant on the quarry, developer, builder and supervisor doing their job correctly. So it's always worth checking out who was involved in the build and if the developer seems like a cowboy then walk away!
