Transponder chip

i managed to misplace the transponder chip from my 02 zafira.

i am going to ring the opel dealer for a quote( gonna be expensive i know)

anyone know if there is a cheaper road i could go down , rather than go to the official garage.

and if i do go through opel how much would i be looking at

if i got this and got it programmed by a locksmith , would it work?

Ring a couple of lock smiths and ask . But I doubt it . I think you need the origonal chipto reprogram ...

Provided you have your security pin code (as is found in your handbook/wallet) there is no reason why a new key couldnt be programmed by anyone with access to Opel specific software. If you dont have the code, you will have to request it through your local Opel dealer who may charge you for it depending on whether the man on the desk got his oats that morning.
