Hi there. I have cut around 20 x 12 foot tipping trailer loads of hardwood timber. Ash,beech etc. not sure how much it is worth as I'm going to sell it and don't want to give it away for a bad price. I have all cut in 8-12 foot lengths and all tipped in my yard. Any ideas ?

Keep it and use it yourself over time if you have any good way of storing it would be my advice. I had a similar quantity a few years back after cleaning land and every prick in the country was ringing offering traders rates for it. It ain't worth the hassle imo unless you are really reliant on the cash.

It needs to be split and processed into 7-10 inch pieces to be worth anything, along with being seasoned, sell a good bit of hardwood timber here out of the yard for 45 euro a cubic metre, which is the full of a 8 foot bucket, a 12 foot trailer like yours say stacked 3 foot high will only have about 3 and a half buckets maybe four once you have it spilt....
Bit of a mugs game timber at the minute as with oil being so cheap theirz no real demand for it, unless your selling it for half noting, have over 60 tons of timber split and in the shed here at the minute and unless I get the 45 a bucket it stays in the shed it's bloody hard work between cutting/splitting it and your working for noting for any less then 45 a bucket

45e is too cheap for that size bucket of timber I'd be saying 70/75e. We were selling 5ft buckets of rings that was cut fresh for 50e. They would be well stacked into the bucket though not just thrown in.
But your right it is a tough game. Cut 2 trees for ourselves this winter and it waa enough. Used to be be at it all winter long and I'm not sorry we haven't the time for it or need for it any more

I agree €45 is far to cheep for that. An 8'x4' trailer with 16" sides well loaded with hard wood is making €130 to €150 around here. There's a lot of work in timber no need in giving it away.

With heating oil so cheap that's all you get, and it's a struggle at that, only reason I'm at it here is have woodland that we are reclaiming next year and the trees have to be got of it...

takes around 2 and a bit buckets to fill a 8x4 trailer so say 100 euro, I sell it delivered for 140 for a 8x4 trailer but your nearly better off at 45 a bucket out of the yard when you take into account time lost delivering it/diseal etc..

It doesnt matter to people what it worth to the seller and how much work is involved. Every man and his dog is selling timber around here and oil is relatively cheap so it's impacting what a trailer load of timber is worth to the buyer. Closer to €100 for that 8x4 trailer of split timber arpund here

    Before I'd pay €100 for a 4x8 trailer, I'd rather buy coal :)

unprocessed in lengths I'd say it's worth in our around 2400 if you have 20 trailer loads for the lot, if their's a lot of ash threw it maybe 3000 if you get the right lad....
Get a mate here with a log splitter to split the timber while i cut it in to rings, he gets 25 euro an hour and it costs about 25 to run the saw and pay myself a 10 a hour and would average 4 buckets a hour, so it costs over a 10 a bucket to process it, from lengths that's why I would be saying a trailer load is worth about 120 a load not processed

ash/beech/oak softwood like spruce is worth very little also a major fire hazard in open fires only really suitable for stoves...

Good chainsaw is half the battle, got a professional 70 cc husky this year and it's a animal to get through timber was only messing with the 50 cc one I had before it, three times the output nearly

Have a semi pro husky here and a stihl with 18 inch bar. You'd fly through timber but you would earn your dinner at it.

Used to do that craic when I was a young lad.
All had to be split and bagged in fert bags.

It used to drive me ape when you would be carrying in the bags to houses (those on the dole) and the woman of the house would be telling me to be quiet so as not to wake the boss...same craic two generations later.

My uncle had quite a substantial fuel run around Dublin when i was a small child. I was paid 3p per bag to fill them with turf. We used to cut the tops off the bags so they took less filling :p

Not when you haven't full days to devote to it.

Would have been easier if the artic was parked in the yard, we had to hand ball every ring into loader amd then into trailer when it arrived
