CE Scheme to BTEA

    Hi,

    I'm on a CE Scheme right now and that finishes next September. I wish to apply for a level 8 college course for next year. Can I apply for BTEA if I'm successful in securing a place on the course while doing my CE Scheme?

    Seems like the answer is yes as long as you can get yourself back on a qualifying payment immediately before the course starts.


    Q8. Can I transfer directly from VTOS/CE Schemes etc. to BTEA?

    Time spent on DSP Work programmes (CE, Tus, RSS, etc.) Work Placement programmes (JobBridge etc.), Back to Work schemes, VTOS or FAS schemes can count towards the qualifying period for Back to Education Allowance. This applies only in circumstances where the person establishes an entitlement to a relevant Social Welfare payment immediately prior to commencing an approved course of study. If a person drops out of one of these schemes, they should contact a Case Officer in their Intreo Office/Social Welfare Local Office.

    I'd want to be getting off the ce scheme a few weeks beforehand so to be sure. It sounds like you have to plead your case if you're dropping out with that last line!

    I started on the 21st of September so I'm assuming that's when my contract finishes next year. That would be a week or two in to the college year.
