Amazon issue

    Hi,

My wife bought some clothes (11 of the same pants, for a Xmas show dress up as Alladin) on Amazon.co.uk

The seller has emailed saying we need to pay customs charges. Previously there was no mention on the add that they were being shipped from outside the Eu.

I am advising my wife to tell them swing for the charges. Deliver as agreed or take them back.

What is my position? I assuming buying the .uk site means no customs charges.

They indicated that if we pay the charges they will refund them through Amazon then.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me.

Amazon offers products from other sellers as well as from their own warehouse. So there is a chance that she has bought from a third party seller.

However, customs charges would only be liable if the items are being delivered from outside the EU. Even then, you would be notified by An Post (or whoever delivers the items) if you are liable for duty. So the seller has nothing to do with with any potential customs charges.

I'd get on to Amazon's customer support team. They're usually pretty helpful.

You shouldn't be paying custom charges when buying from a third party seller on Amazon if getting the item delivered to Ireland or the UK, if you are this means the item is being shipped from outside the eu.

Contact amazon customer service in relation to this,

Was the seller asking you to make payment to them for the custom charges? if so this needs to be reported to Amazon as this would be against their policies.

That's exactly what I suspected. I have told them deliver as per agreed and that I am paying no more.

It is being deliver to my parcelmotel in the north. They didn't contact me at all.

I usually order for my wife as I am used to the system and spotting stuff like this. The stuff she ordered was ordered 3 weeks ago (24th of November) and their predicted delivery was (4th-27th December or something like that). That would have pricked my spidy sense.

I was onto amazon this morning and they have contacted the seller to tell them they must pay the tariff and deliver the items.

Once I get them they said there will be no issue in sending them back for a full refund.

This is why I love amazon. Opened chat window and 10 mins later all sorted. Thats why I have dropped almost 3K GBP online with them this year. Hassle free buying.
