Any advice on a 1.4T or 1.8 Vauxhall Insignia. Looking at late 2013 model. Hopefully goin to uk next week.

Looking for petrol as doing approx 10k miles. I am considering diesel as my daily journey is a round trip of 40km, but petrol is my preference. If I did go diesel I would consider 1.6 Passat or Octavia.

    So,
    1. For petrol 1.4T or 1.8?
    2. For diesel Passat or Octivia?

    Thanks for any guidance.

What bhp is the 1.4t in the Insignia?

I have a 2012 Astra with what I assume is that engine (120bhp) and it's just ok, good low down power in the rev range but by 3k rpm the show is over, it's not particularly efficient either, you'l never see north of 40mpg, not even on the motorway, realistically 35 is as good as you'l see.

If it's only offering that in the Astra i'd say it mightn't be the best match for the heavier Insignia.

That said, if you're ok with 35mpg tops and a satisfactory amount of power then it's fine, but i'd say the 1.8 could be more at home in it?

Looking back through Opel stuff sent late 2013, the 1.4t was 140ps in the Insignia and (from a 3rd October 2013 press release) was joined by a 1.6SIDI 170ps and a 2.0SIDI Turbo putting out 250ps.

Very few Petrol Insignia's were sold in Ireland, with any of the various petrol options. The 1.8i wasn't on the early 2012 price list I found - don't think they've done that engine for a while. At Launch the Insigna has both 1.6 and 1.8 Petrol versions. Can't find anything that old (lost a load of mails late 2009) but I think the 1.8i was carried over from the Vectra & 9-3 - 125ps. Was OK in the Saab and Vectra, but nothing special.
