Thoughts on selling raw milk? Chap in tipperary milking three and doing well aha reckons he gets two euro a litre. Seems there is a market for it, would I be mad to consider milking ten and selling it?

Piece on ear to the ground about this some time back.. If you have the time and inclination, if you can sell it and it's something you'd enjoy definitely not mad and warrants further investigation...

Might be wrong but I think there is a strict and small limit. .. 30 litres a week? .. for direct unregulated sales.

While I'm not saying you're mad , you'd really want to know your market - have your milking and herd hygiene top notch and be really on the ball - how are you going to sell your milk ? Where ? In what packaging ? What sort of refrigeration are you going to use ( holding and transport ? ) . What'll you do with your excess milk - ( if you're selling milk on Saturday what'll you do with Saturday evening and Sundays milk ?)
I buy raw milk regularly and pay 1 euro a litre ...

You could make cheese with the surplus. Dept would be down on you fairly hard if you had a reactor:eek:

I often buy it but it can be hard to source.
I would suggest doing a sort of preliminary survey and see if it's wanted in the area, maybe that guy is providing enough for your surrounds. In saying that though, the stuff I buy comes from Cork so it has quite the journey to make before it gets to Leitrim. :D

    how about night-milk

Altogether, these findings suggest that Night milk is a promising natural aid for sleep- and anxiety-related disturbances

I just thought if you could sell it successfully then what a life! Not many people making a living from ten cows... Seems to be a large health food market and locally also. I think the chap in tipperary and others I have seen use a small milking machine and then pour it into a large vat with a tap like the home brew barrels then just puts it in a large fridle. Bottle it in glass bottles then delivers it in a cool box.. Seems to work and meet all legislation apparently..

100% would buy it if somebody was selling.

    Add your reply here.

Aha well I'm in Leitrim so could work out for you! No one I know of doing it on any scale here

Just call into a local farmer with a glass bottle and ask to buy some milk. Simple

Perhaps! You'd want to be well set up before offering though. I'm unsure of liability issues around it. For now a handy limo does the job in summer :D
