Have a family member flying into Dublin airport on 31/12, arriving at 18:10. Family home is in Kerry and there's a flight from Dublin at 18:50... would this be too tight or would it be possible (assuming the arriving flight is on time) ?
    Thanks in advance

Are they from the same terminal?

    Its cutting it very fine.

If you could buy a ticket that included both legs of the journey with the same airline it could be doable as you'd have some sort of comeback. If the second leg is with ryanair or something then forget about it.

No, the arriving flight gets in to terminal 1 and then I think the domestic flight leaves from T 2, both with different airlines too...!

I'll drive up and collect her so!

I just thought there might be a chance cos I'm pretty sure I've had to make connecting flights in that short space of time myself, but it was abroad and I suppose my baggage had been checked in all the way through to the end of the journey...

    Thanks!

Definitely too tight if you're changing terminals. It can take 20min just to walk from the gate to the baggage hall in T1 if your plane comes in at the far end. The other flight would be boarding before they even got out of T1, and then there's passport control, security and getting to the next gate.

And I presume that the 31st might be a busy day at the airport?

    Imho....Yes.
But I have been known to be wrong on occasions.

    Mental. In my experience anyway!

The later you fly in the day the more likely you are to be delayed.

At any time of the day that'd be a very tight connection, but in the evening it would be almost impossible.

No chance if she has to change terminals imo. Not to mention the fact she may have a bag.

I am the ultimate 'last minute' traveller but that simply is not possible
    Imo.

Passport control, change terminal, security, get to gate. In 30 minutes, no way.

Youd be relying on a delay on he flight to Kerry, which if it did not happen, it would cause a knock on delay waiting for a litt to pick him/her up.

At that time of day, any delays in earlier flights will have had a knock-on effect and given that's it's the middle of winter and new year's eve, there's a very high high chance of delays along the way so it's virtually certain that she won't make the second flight.

Would Shannon or Cork airport suit for her connecting flight? Both in terms of flight times and for you to collect her?

According to your times, its 40 minutes time to connect, not 30! 40 might just possibly maybe be doable if it were same terminal and one ticket.

It's 40 minutes between scheduled arrival and scheduled departure. You won't get on to even a domestic flight these days by arriving at the gate at bang on the departure time so not even the biggest optimist or last-minute traveller would say that there is 40 minutes to play with.

no, but you would still refer to the connection time as 40 minutes, not 30 minutes. Which incidentally is plenty time to connect in airports like copenhagen (on one ticket)

Forget it OP - too tight.

As the flight would be on a separate ticket it would not be viewed as a connection in any case.

Dublin Coach have a service to Kerry now which might save you driving up.

It connects with the Airport bus at Red Cow.
