How's it going lads. So I just got accepted as an apprentice pipe fitter for a pretty big company and was just wondering do you get any type of tool box/kit allowance on tools that you might need in the future from solas? I'm asking because I know when my brother was doing his electrical apprenticeship he was able to get something like that and I can't seem to find anything about tool allowances on any sites. Any help or info is much appreciated. Thanks

depends on the company you are with. Most do not give a tool box allowance to the best of my knowledge, especially if you are with a contractor. I'm in the electrical trade and work directly for a large company and am lucky enough to have a virtually unlimited tool allowance and a really nice snapon toolchest. Whereas guys I meet on the site working with contractors have to buy their own bit by bit.
However the advantage of being with a contractor is that you get to use the tools a lot more, whereas I would use mine fairly infrequently.

Most firms operate a "tool account" for apprentices. You buy the tools through the company and pay them back €10 or 20 a week. You also save the VAT.
