Irish websites comments being deleted...

    Is anybody else finding this?
A friend was telling me about recently commenting on RTE.IE website and complaining about their automatic questionnaire regarding whether or not the viewer wanted to learn more about their entertainment section. Aparently there was a no not interested section which she chose many times and the message kept re appearing. Well she decided to comment on their entertainment pages complaining about this and rte aparently appeared to not display her comment and instead give her creditability rating a very low rating. If this is the case it is terrible as this is something we are all paying for and it needs to be impartial.

One would wonder how a state funded body has the right to edit comments in the first place.....

I'm thinging this whole post is very much in keeping with boards.ie's liability restrictions ;-)

Finally I am hoping if non of or mods have any issue could we have a vote on having a thread titled ' they would not let me post, with any poster prior to sending it thus adding a picture with said post and link to article they wanted to post it on......

So just ONE Irish website you're talking about really?

Bit of a misleading thread title.

I vote you be banned from the internet or at least from the Irish part of the internet.

Could've sworn I gave my two cents on this thread earlier.

oh strong words, I vote for all websites to allow all reasonable non hate comments and I also vote to have me kept on the internet because I reckon i'm not the worst.

And not at all sure what you user name means, and im not sure is mine makes any sense so I think we have a weak bond at the least.

I have noticed a lot of Irish websites being called out on their banning of comments lacking the required digestibility for their current agenda.

Because they're state-funded you think they should be forced to publish potentially libellous comments on their site .. why exactly?

Okay lets agree on them having no obligation to post libelous comments and indeed being wise not to do so.

Lets look at the possibly suggested possibility of them adding negative credits to a persons profile( thus trying to indicate a discredit to an other viewer) and deleting( or choosing not to post) comments they might not agree with or that highlights their own tactics in trying to promote issues that are not balanced or are pushy advertising, lets just say they are possibly doing that would you agree that they are acting with a total lack of balance..... should this be the case?

Could you explain this a bit more? Not having a go - just don't totally understand it.

There are plenty of websites with comment sections that will choose to hide comments that don't suit their agenda. That is nothing new. It doesn't even need to have a legal basis for hiding the comment.

Private companies can remove potentially defamatory, abusive, trolling, incitement to hatred comments if they wish.

People say "Oh it's because it's not in line with their agenda" yet you'll still see plenty of comments published that aren't in line with their agenda. The comments removed likely fit into the categories I listed above.

A quick trawl of the 'comments' on thejournal is the best argument in favour of censorship you'll ever see.

Yea, if there's one place that really should shut down its comment section, it's thejournal.ie.

I'm always impressed by the people who claim a website is out to get them but are able to complain about it. Surely those comments would have also been deleted if that was the case?
