Disability allowance?

I'm currently on jobseekers allowance since I lost my job, I have been on it since August. I am severely depressed and anxious and on medication to treat both. I literally cannot function of a day. My doctor filled out a disability allowance form and said I have had it since 2010 and be expects it to last indefinitely, I rang the social welfare who said I could be waiting longer than 12 weeks for a decision and that they are only processing claims from September at the moment I only put mine in 2 weeks ago. I'm mentally unstable at the moment and would find it impossible to search for a job without breaking down ( please don't judge me) is there anything I can do about this? Instead of waiting till March or so for a decision on disability allowance and more than likely getting refused where it will probably take until this time next year to appeal it :( any advice? Thanks. I'm 19 by the way

Your GP has certified you unfit for work,do not worry about applying for jobs, make sure you sent in the weekly certs to the dept.

You need to apply for Illness benefit while waiting for your DA claim to be processed.

    Details here

Go to your GP and they will fill out the form for you. They will then provide you with a weekly medical certificate to provide to social welfare.

    Best of luck, feel better.

If you are on JA and have a DA claim pending then JA will continue to be paid to you until such time as a decision is made on your DA claim.

But I haven't paid 104 weeks PRSI contributions, can I still apply for Illness benefit?

Yes you can submit Illness Benefit certs and yes your right you won't get it
But you can then go to your local CWO in your local Health Centre and get SWA payment while your waiting for your DA to be processed
Don't forget to bring the CWO a letter from your GP plus proof of address and I d
