I have a walnut stairs with a lacquer finish. Unfortunately it looks like grit was on a shoe and has now scratched stairs. Is there an tips to repair/hide damage?

Ouch......I suppose its going to happen unless you go all Japanese and remove shoes.
You can buy a product called 'scratch remover ' ( strangely enough) made by Colron or Rustins which works pretty well. It need a bit of elbow grease to blend in the surrounding lacquer. Otherwise you are into getting a matching filler and wax finish.

It looks like a pu lacquer. If you've a real steady hand and the tiniest drip on the top of a very fine brush it should work. Don't be tempted to brush it in, just a tiny touch following the line of the scratch.
