When to glance left in roundabout

Treating the roundabout as a clock and entering at 6 o' clock:

If exiting at 12 o'clock (straight on) at what time should you glance left? 11 o'clock? 11:30? 8 o'clock?

If exiting at 3 o'clock (right turn), what time should you glance left?

Recently the spouse passed her driving exam, but got marks against 'glancing too late.' Two different driving instructors we used, both agreed on the time we glance, and so do a couple of the better videos we've seen online. But, not the examiner, though all he said was, "You're glancing too late."

As I'm soon to take my exam, and I drive very similarly, I'd like to clear this up beforehand.

    Thanks for your reply

Glance left any time you are moving left and could obstruct vehicles to your left. I think officially you should glance left before ANY manoeuvre.
So, just before entering the roundabout glance left as there may be a cyclist coming up your inside. Glance left again as you draw parallel with exit 1 at 9 o'clock, before indicating and exiting the roundabout at 12 o'clock, again in case anything is coming up your inside.

I got marked on this in my test.

Even though I felt I was a tad unfairly marked, i didn't complain as I passed the test and was just happy to have that weight off me.

But anyway, I believe I got marked for not taking a look at each exit that I passed.

For example, if a roundabout is a clock, and there are four exits (at 3, 6, 9 and 12). I came onto the roundabout at 6, went by exits 9 and 12, and came off the roundabout at 3, i was marked for not looking to see what was coming on to the roundabout (it was a mark for observation). I'd argue it doesn't matter what's coming on as I have the right of way, but I apparently never even looked at exit 12 as I was passing it. I didn't see the need to.

As for 'glancing', i think you use the general rule of checking both mirrors just prior to indicating. So that's when you check to your left? So once you go past the exit before yours, you check mirrors and signal left to show you're taking the next exit, then you keep an eye on your left mirror as you change lane/turn off?

Glance left just before 9 o clock, but make absolutely sure that you indicate left while coming off the roundabout going straight ahead at 10 0 clock.
