BMW 1 and 2 series!

Coming from a massive BM fanboi! I think these cars are a joke, I mean there is obviously a demand for them and bm want to make money. But the state of them in my opinion. I saw a 2 series the other day in the local supermarket carpark and was laughing out loud at the thing, I then went to see the prices on bmw.ie E33k or thereabouts for the entry engine povo spec for this JOKE of a thing!

We had just driven back a project car my bro picked up for E1600 a 2001 530 m sport. 140k on the clock, had been sat up for 2 years, it failed the test on a single gaitor!

I personally just don't see any real prestige or appeal in the 1 and 2 series, they look crap! From the 3 series and up obviously, they have decent to very good looking cars.

I also work beside a bmw garage, what is it with the awful champagne colour that many people are ordering, like you see nice 4 series m sports in it, it is absolutely brutal!

Anyone those are my thoughts of the day :D

the e30 was expensive and small in its day too.
BMWs aren't supposed to be cheap or good value.

They bring the money in. BMW don't really care as long as people buy the product. They wouldn't be made it they weren't a money spinner. They also help to ensure there are M cars into the future.

I suppose these cars are for the masses who want the 2015/6 reg plate and a BMW logo sitting in the driveway.

I know myself I would much rather buy a 3 or 5 series that is a few years old and has a decent spec, rather than a 1 or 2 series with a cassette deck and wind up windows in it.

the masses don't but then though. 5 series well outsells it

Have you ever driven a 1/2 series? I believe the 2 Series (the coupe that is) to be one of the best handling BMW's I have ever driven. The 1-Series is also a nice drive.

As the lads said people don't really care what they drive in a lot of cases as Lon as it has the badge. And if BMW can make money off it then they will.

As for the colours, the champagne gold is quite nice actually (cashmere silver I think it's called). It doesn't age as badly as some other colours and is a nice change from the blues greys and blacks everywhere.

All BMW are doing is the same as merc/audi and that is filling niches as merc have the a/b class and audi have the a1/a3 so bmw launch models to compete.

You might laugh but was in BMW the other day and sat in a 2 series active tourer. Took me a few minutes to build up the courage, got strangely attracted to it..it felt like a nice place to be seated, I nearly told the mrs about it.
I won't be driving a coupe or convertible for another 18 years and the 5 series boot just isn't big enough.
I'll be changing my 530d for something next year, I really need to go out and flog myself for a while after sitting in the 2 series and going do you know what this might suit me, but could I look at myself in the mirror every day, I don't think I could : (

I don't mind the 1 series, but since they launched the 2 series, all I can see in it is a mix between a Mazda5, a Honda FR-V and a Kia Carens.

I get the active tourer etc, dont think they are great looking, but I get them. What I struggle with is the 2 series coupe, I mean coupes are usually meant to be good looking, the 2 series coupe is so bad looking, I cant actually work out who in their right minds would want to be seen in one!

I think in the right spec they look the business.

That they drive so so well also adds to the fact that they are brilliant. Everything you want in a small sports car

I actually really like the 2 series Coupé, supposed to be a fantastic car to drive and plus it can be had with a six pot engine and a manual gearbox like an E30 too (now if only it was naturally aspirated and then we'd really be onto something), I despise the pseudo BMW Active Tourer yoke (or whatever they call that abomination of a thing that's an MPV) with every fibre of my being, though.
