Hairdressers that can recommend entirely new hairstyles

I'm looking to make a change to my appearance with regards to my hairstyle for 2016. The style I always get is short sides and bottom and medium on top, but I'm getting a bit bored of that.

Personally I find it really hard to look at styles online and trying to picture what they'd be like on me, so would need a professional opinion.

However the hairdressers I usually go to are those drop in, cut hair, and leave ones and anytime I've asked them to recommend something, they don't like it.

What's the best way to go about getting someone that can be good at recommendations, without paying an arm and a leg for it?

Like myself, you probably just go into a walk in barber/hairdressers where you will be one of many rapidly mown heads.

I do that too, I've really short hair and just go once a month for a mow.

I'd recommend you go to a unisex hair salon instead. Make an appointment with a stylist. They have prices displayed on the wall there so you'll know what you're going to pay beforehand.

You might be hard pressed to get a free consultation at a good salon in the run up to Christmas as the best stylists will inevitably be fully booked.

There are a few excellent modern barbers shops/salons around. Check out the hair styles of the barbers to help you choose a good one.

A lot depends on your hair type. Whether it's dense, thin, wavy, coarse etc. Are you willing to put some work into the upkeep of your hairstyle or do you want something that doesn't require any effort to maintain?

Zero effort to maintain. Cannot stand hairgel! Plus my hair can get quite thick, so it makes it even more difficult to know what hairstyles will suit me. Reckon I'll just get what I usually do, but then get a consultation in the new year. Make it a resolution!
