Hi Folks, This might seem like a stupid question to most, so forgive my ignorance, but Just wondering would anyone know anything about insulation...as in would it be common practice to put (when using the orange/pink type fibreglass(sorry, the name of it escapes me at the minute) it between the walls as one is building up to a 2 story extension. The outer leaf is normal block and the inner is Quinn lites. The roof is off, so inside and outside the extension are open to the elements as well as going down into the cavity obviously. Is it common practice to place it anyway regardless of it getting wet????? Doesn't sound right to me, but then I know little or nothing about such things which is why I'm asking here for peace of mind.
    TIA

Fibre insulation (of any description) should not be put in the cavity of a cavity wall house.

Hi Micktheman. Thanks for reply. Tbh, I didnt know this. Why shouldn't it be used ? I have tried googling but am none the wiser. I had my doubts when builder was using it in exposed conditions but I didn't realise it was a definite no no and was not to be used in a cavity full stop. Our builder talks the talk but as time goes by I am thinking he is full of sh$te at our expensive due to our naivety. How the hell are we going to fish it out of the cavity of a 2 story extension  Feeling a tad bit deflated...

Ask your builder for the agrement cert or equivalent for the product being used in the cavity.
Is the cavity fully filled? If so, then my concern would be damp passing across the cavity via the insulation (the outer leaf in a cavity wall in known as the wet leaf). Wet / damp insulation is next to useless (think of putting a damp jumper on!). Who specified the insulation type? Perhaps they should be your next port of call.
