Coming home this evening, there's a lot of gravel and stones particularly left-hand-side southbound in the hundred meters or so after Sundrive crossroads.

I've passed this mess a few times in the last few weeks.

As you say, lots of gravel and mucky sh1te. It's just after the entrance to Mount Argus. The worst I encountered was heading southbound on Tuesday evening- it was almost cyclocross.

My bike is filthy(er) as a result. Where do I send the cleaning bill.....? :D

This is worse than usual (though less muddy), and at a bit of a distance from the construction site, so I reckoned it might take some people by surprise - i.e. past sundrive in the direction of KCR. Some stones the size of cobble setts amongst the gravel. I'd hazard a guess it was a poorly loaded construction waste lorry shedding part of its load - and the road-sweepers the builders use to clear the worst on the junk don't go that far.

I feel your pain on the bike filth. My poor steed is looking distinctly disreputable.:o

I passed this way today. Lots of large stones from Sundrive crossroads to the Applegreen fuel station on Lwr. Kimmage Rd. I hit a few stones that sent a wobble through to the handlebars - those moments when you vocally release a "Wooh....". I'd also a few smaller pebbles flick from under the wheels to hit the bodywork of passing cars.

I reckon it's debris that's caught in the tyres of the trucks leaving the construction site that gets deposited on the road as they travel.

Like you say, it's probably a bit too far from the site for the lads to be cleaning. Next time I'm passing I'll speak to them to see of they can sweep up that far as the loose stones are large and do present a danger.

I've decided to change my route for the next while: partly road debris, partly to avoid heavy construction traffic that I don't want overtaking me on a relatively narrow main road. OH also said Friday was worse than Thursday on the Sundrive to Applegreen stretch. On the way home from town, I went left at Harold's Cross park, took a right up Tivoli Avenue, up Wilfrid Road / Kenilworth Park / Clareville / Larkfield Grove / Aideen Avenue, back to normal. It's simpler on the way in (no banned or awkward right turns to take account of) - Aideen Avenue straight through Mount Tallant, HX road.

I know there are a few regulars along Lower Kimmage Road, but some might not be so familiar with some of the possible alternatives. Worth considering those possibilities if you want to avoid construction traffic, waste, or just plain keep the bike a bit cleaner!

They're building a giant apartment complex in the field that was a haven for wildlife (and a couple of homeless guys who slept safely there) beside Mount Argus.

I came home (southbound - Harolds Cross to KCR) on the Lwr Kimmage Road this evening around 1830h.

It looks like it's been cleaned - no construction debris or stones. Hopefully it stays that way!
