Are 2012 1.6 golfs the same as the older 1.6 engines

If you are talking about the diesel engine then yes, it was only launched in the Golf in 2010 which would be the same model as a 2012 one.

If your talking petrol then there was no 1.6 petrol in a 2012 Golf. There would have been 1.2 TSi and 1.4 TSi.

I think it's fairly much the identical same until you get up to the mk7 golfs which are slightly different power output on them was 110 bhp I think it may be up to 120bhp for 2016 models.

With the mk6 golfs your looking at if the tdi badge has a red I on the back its 105bhp if not its 90bhp most poverty spec entry ones were 90bhp. It's a good engine for what it is not quick but adequate fairly reliable too. All mk6 1.6tdi golfs are being recalled from what I can tell won't make much difference once you don't bring it near a vw garage for the recall. As by getting the recall done the car will be either harder on fuel or down on power it literally has to be one or both.

    2010-2012 are the same.

Slightly OT but I agree with the above post regarding the recall. The very best outcome to be expected from the recall is no noticeable change in fuel consumption and/or driveability. So I don't see any point in risking any deterioration by getting the recall work carried out. Our 1.6TDI Caddy certainly won't be going near the dealer that's for sure!
