Batmobile 1989/1992

Hello everyone in new to boards so this is my first post, hopefully of many.

I've been thinking of building the 1989/1992 bat mobile for some time and I'm just wandering is there anyone else out there in Ireland that has a bat-mobile?

Also what's the deal with insurance etc and kit cars?

My idea is to buy a pre 80s VW beetle so no nct, and it's vintage, lift off the body and just use the chaise,
Lengthen the chaise and steering rod, and then fibreglass the body around it.

Maybe use the beetle engine since it's already in the rear or use a Diesel engine ( very easy to wire up) and chop the whole front end off a mk2 golf and use the steering rack with power steering drive train and brakes with servo, suspension, Also it would add some weight to the front of the car and help with steering and driving as the car will be fairly light.

Is it still considered a kit car then?
    What about insurance?

Any input would be greatly accepted.

Beetle seems like a terrible place to start. The original car was based on a Chevy impala, so you'd need to trying to get close to that.

Also look up Casey Putch. His road legal (for the US) is incredible.

Before you do anything else, ask your insurer. If you want to try getting it road legal it may cost a small fortune.

Your best bet would be an American car V8 from the 70s, early 80s model where the car can be detached from the frame (not sure if i phrased that correctly). Forget about insurance etc not going to happen. could make a cool show car though and even then you would have to trailer it to the show.

The original batmobile was 21feet long, I drive a VW Passat so it's like sitting in the booth of the Passat if both fronts of the cars were side by side.

My plan is to build the car 80-90% of the original size

If i were to get it on the road I'd have to be able to turn etc it would be like trying to turn a tank. Also I don't own a trailer 21 feet long. :)

My idea was could I claim it as a kit car build on a chase of another car even if I got like a mustang or some chase like that. And does a kit car have to be the same wheel base as original car or can I cut the chase and make it longer?

Would love a driving road legal bat mobile. YouTube the Guy from Australia that built his own bat mobile and now uses it for good, and helps kids with cancer etc for "make a wish" charity I'd love to be able to do something like that afterwards with the car.

There's a road legal Batmobile on a youtube episode of Jay Lenos garage. It's where he interviews people with very unusual cars etc. The Batmobile in question is from the later/newer films. But to make a DIY road legal version here in Ireland would be a bit of a nightmare I'd imagine.

And I agree that the starting point should be a 50's or 60's Yank job with big fins etc, and then maybe just the bodywork modified with add on's.

    But I see your point.........................

Before all else lean what a chassis is, you will struggle immensely using a chaise.....
