have a hi spec tanker (bought new about 5 years ago), never greased the wheel bearings in it as there is no grease nipples to do so. however the bearing cap can be opened it seems by a series of allen keys. do ye open these and shove grease in or is it better left alone?

Whether I am right or wrong I apply a no nipple no grease policy.

When you think about it, you never have to grease car wheel bearings, so sealed for life bearings can work for life without ever having to be refilled.

I recently took the hubs of my 12yo 115,000 car, the grease was scarce and dried so I repacked them and they spun a bit smoother.

Here's the fun thing...put too much grease and it'll get too hot and destroy the bearing

Do anyone ever adjust the bearings

I adjust mine once a year on the front wheels. Never done the back ones. Well worth doing. They do wear a little over time and the looser they are, the quicker they fail.

a quick google found this hi spec manual : http://www.hispec.net/ru/dloads/manuals/tanker/MVacTank_ENG.pdf

    here is the maintenance page
    Maintenance

    Daily:
 Check hydraulic discharge valve for correct operation.
 Check tightness of wheel nuts.
 Wheel nuts should be tightened diagonally using a torque wrench
     Standard 510 Nm/ Lorry 600Nm.

    Weekly:
 Check that all controls operate freely.
 Check tyre pressure: see page 28.
 Check wheel hubs, brakes, grease wheel bearings and brake nipples. Parts can be identified in Figs 9/10.
 Check all hoses for cracks. Replace if necessary.
 Check PTO guards and replace if broken.

    Annually:
Wash the pump interior with half a litre of diesel oil. To do this, pass the oil into the exhaust pipe when the pump is in the pressure mode.
Note! If the pump has not been worked for a long period, the above procedure should be carried out before starting.
Check pump gearbox oil after the first 50 hours work and then at least once a year.

    IMPORTANT
    • Repair work shall only be carried out by a professional skilled repairer.
    • All external work on any tank shall only be carried out when there is no internal pressure in the tank and the tank has been completely emptied of all content.

It's not going to be spinning fast or for long periods so I severely doubt you will have to put grease in there once every few years give a look in maybe.
There is a bale trailer here for the last 4 years with lorry axles under it.
I had the hubs off it last week and there was still plenty of grease in there.
God only knows when last they were opened
